We use this area of the site to keep account of some of the organisations we have supported through our Community @ Black Hops initiative since starting it in October 2018.

2022 initiatives
January 2022
There’s a special tradition that we do here at Black Hops. Once a staff member has completed one year of Full Time service with us, they get to brew their very own beer and use proceeds to donate to a charity of their choice. This time our staff member, Corey, chose to donate to the Currumbin Wildlife Hospital.
2021 initiatives
December 2021
We contributed beers to help raise funds for the Sumatran Sun Bears team and to OzHarvest, a non-profit organisation that collects food wastage from large outlets to create meals for those in need throughout Brisbane.
November 2021
At Black Hops, we are avid supporters of a range of charities and causes so when it came time for Movember we were keen to take part in the challenge. 7 bearded Black Hops staff stripped themselves back to their baby faces and raised a whopping $7,035.
October 2021
We had a fairly quiet month in October, but managed to contribute a few cartons of beer and a merch pack to support Alfred and Constance and a community gala.
September 2021
To support a dear friend and Burleigh Heads local we supplied a karma keg of “Send It” with all sales going towards his cancer treatment. We also donated various cartons of beer for raffle to Livin’ and Corinthian Doors.
August 2021
During August, we donated a selection of beer and merch to raffle off and help contribute to; Westside St Aidan’s Golf Day, The Pyjama Foundation, Skin Cancer Tasmania, Marsden Scout Group, Bravehearts golf day, Burleigh Heads Community Kindy, Paws in the Park in partnership with AWLQ and East Brisbane State School.
In homage to long-term and beloved taproom regular, Rod McGrath, we produced a West Coast IPA “Early Departure”. We held a karma keg with proceeds going towards a GoFundMe page for Rod’s family.
July 2021
We donated a range of beer and merch packs to help raise money for the following foundations and communities; Cyclocross RATS Cycling club, Cystic Fibrosis QLD, Bravehearts Foundation, Robina Roos AFL, Make-A-Wish Foundation, Parkwood Sharks
A karma keg was held in support of Brisbane taproom regular, Sarah Osbourne, with proceeds going towards ovarian cancer.
11 Black Hops crew took part in the Kokoda Challenge 2021 for the Kokoda Youth Foundation. We brewed a special beer for the cause, donated the earnings from the first 3 kegs tapped in each venue and raised over 4k.
June 2021
This month we donated various prize packs including beer and merchandise to an array of different fundraising events including Hope4Health which was founded by Griffith University students, Surf Life Saving, and fun community giveaways.
We also made a donation to the “20kml Troop for ADRPA” to assist in improving the Arundel Park Riding Centre for the disabled.
May 2021
During May, we supplied a karma keg of Send It to ‘Brewed on Cuthbert’ with proceeds going to the Charlie Teo Foundation for brain cancer awareness. Another karma keg was held this month to help a family support “Jetty’s Send Off”.
We also donated various cartons of beer and merch packs as raffle prizes to help raise funds for the following events; Make-A-Wish foundation held at Emerald Lakes, Bravehearts Ball at Brisbane City Hall, Ovarian Cancer Awareness hosted by the Broadbeach Bowls Club.
March 2021
In March we donated a merch pack and beer to various Surf Life Saving Australia fundraising events, this included raising funds for cancer treatment and SLSA.
2020 initiatives
20 October, Black Dog Institute
We donated 2 cartons of Pale Ale to a fundraiser where Nico will be shaving his head and raising funds for the Black Dog Institute to help raise awareness and funds for research in the field of mental health.
17 October, Perry Cross Spinal Research Foundation
We donated 10 cartons of Ginger Cider to a charity golf game that was held in replacement of the annual Gold Coast Fundraising Ball. The Perry Cross Spinal Research Foundation, founded by Gold Coast quadriplegic Perry Cross, supports and funds The Spinal Injury Project (SIP) which is based at Griffith University and we are working towards a human clinical trial, and ultimately a cure for paralysis.
10 October, The Leukaemia Foundation – Light The Night
We have donated 4 cartons of Beer to this fundraiser for blood cancer. Funds raised through this special event provide families facing blood cancer with the care they will need to make it through every scary, uncertain moment that follows a diagnosis.
7 October, Nixon’s Hope for a Cure
We have donated $250 to Nixon’s Hope for a Cure, raising funds for lifesaving cancer treatment for local 4 year old boy, Nixon.
28 September, Hear Say
We donated $50 to Hear Say’s Loud Shirt Day, raising money and awareness to children suffering with hearing loss.
17 September, Ad Astra
We donated 6 cartons of Beer to the community theatre production of RED at Ad Astra theatre.
26 August, Ubuntu Health (Fundraiser)
For this fundraiser, we donated a merch pack and a carton of Pale Ale to help raise money for health-based projects in disadvantaged communities.
03 August, Mongrel Bar (Fundraiser)
For this fundraiser, we donated a Karma Keg to raise funds for medical supplies in Arequipa, a city in Peru that is getting hit hard by covid-19
12 March, Action Indoor Sports Victoria Point (Special Needs Cricket Fundraiser)
For this fundraiser, we donated a merch pack and a carton of Pale Ale to help raise money for special needs.
1 March, No Buttz Community Clean
We joined the guys at No Buttz to do a big community clean around Burleigh Heads for clean up Australia day. We donated various cartons which were handed out amongst the volunteers alongside some grain bags and free beer cards.
29 Feb, Resilience Beer for Bushfire Relief (NSWRFS)
We are proud participants in The Resilience Beer for Bushfire Relief, launched at BHII’s first birthday celebrations.
The Resilience Beer was created due to the unfortunate events of bushfires across Australia 2019-2020. Aiming to connect brewers and beer drinkers from around the world in support of this.
We raised over $1500 across both taprooms thanks to your help.
14 Feb, Salt Bar (RFS & Charity Fundraiser)
A sportsmans luncheon with Channel 9’s, ‘The Footy Show’. We donated a keg and a march pack for the event, helping to raise around $25K.
9 Feb, Burgster (Bushfire Fundraiser)
Two cartons of Pale Ale and Lay Day were donated, alongside a merch pack for their fundraiser where all proceeds went towards helping the Bushfires.
15 Feb, Gold Coast Hospital Foundation Fundraiser
We donated a Black Hops merch pack for their raffle to help raise funds for the hospital and their patients.
1 Feb, Elk and Doe Music (NSW Rural Fire Service)
The acoustic due Elk and Doe jamming at our Black Hops II location. Their fee as well as tips have been donated to the NSW Rural Fire Service.
17, 18 & 19 Jan 2020, Three Brews Bar (Red Cross AU & Wires)
We donated a 20L Pale Ale Karma Keg where $5 from every beer sold was donated to both Australia Red Cross and Wires Wildlife Rescue.
18 Jan 2020, Bine, Beers For Bushfire Relief (NSW Rural Fire Service)
We donated a Karma Keg of Send It, helping raise over $3000.

18 Dec 2019, The Scratch Bar Karma Keg
We donated a karma keg to help raise funds for local farmers and to assist with drought relief/water security.
15 Dec 2019, Haze-A-Thon Brewski Event (Australian Koala Foundation)
We donated a Karma Keg towards the Brewki Haze-A-Thon event, helping raise $2471 for the bushfire crisis.
14 Dec 2019, Food Fighter Film Screening (Oz Harvest)
We donated a variety of our beers towards the Food Fighter film screening, which follows the story of Aus Harvest CEO Ronni Kahn. Oz Harvest is a leading food rescue charity, distributing surplus food to those in need.
6 Dec 2019, Extra Eggnog Donation (NSW Rural Fire Service)
Our beer, Extra Eggnog, was recalled from the Beer Cartel calendar and we gave people the option to donate instead of get a refund. We donated $10,458 to NSW Rural Fire Service as a result of this.
2 Dec 2019, Monetary Donation (Cancer Council Australia)
We donated $500 towards the Shitbox Rally Spring 2020 event. The event challenges teams to drive cars worth less than $1000 across some of the most remote locations in Australia, raising money for Cancer Council.
16 Nov 2019, Black Hops Staff (Movember)
Staff participation and Black Hops donations to campaigns. In particular, some Black Hops staff joined our good mate Jimmie Gold on a 17km charity run, with all proceeds from Send It schooners sold at HQ on the day donated to Movember. A total of $342.79!
15 Nov 2019, Hellbound Brisbane (The Rescue Collective)
We donated a karma keg to local Brisbane bar HellBound, with funds donated to The Rescue Collective which helps save animals injured in QLD bushfires.

We donated a karma keg to the Loud Shirt fundraiser, helping raise funds for Hear and Say, a world-leading Paediatric Auditory-Verbal and cochlear implant centre.
5-13 Oct 2019, LIVIN Mental Health Week Exhibition (LIVIN Org)
We donated a variety of our beers for their Exhibition during Mental Health Week.

A host of table tennis events with funds raised donated to several organisations combating the slavery of vulnerable young people, particularly in South East Asia. We donated a merch pack and Care Package for their silent auction.
Oct 2019, Taproom Karma Kegs with Beers Illustrated (Polished Man)
In partnership with Beers Illustrated, we tapped a karma keg at each Black Hops taproom with all proceeds donated to the Polish Man 2019 challenge, a charity which raises funds for trauma recovery and prevention for children around the world.

Make-A-Wish partners with sick kids, their families and medical teams to grant wishes as unique as the children who imagine them.

We donated a merch pack and some beer towards the raffle, helping raise funds for Meals on Wheels.
10 Aug 2019, Ubuntu Through Health Annual Dinner
Established by Griffith Uni medical students, Ubuntu Through Health is a non-profit initiative promoting positive health outcomes in developing regions. We donated a carton of beer and a Merch Pack towards their Annual Dinner raffle.
July 2019, Plastic Free July
A global movement that helps millions of people be part of the solution to plastic pollution. We supplied “Plastic Free Gold Coast” with beer for their July opening night.
29 June 2019, Condev Cares and Robina Roos Community Day (Baby Give Back)
A charity game day to raise money for Baby Give Back. We donated a raffle prize which helped raise over $10,000.
21 June 2019, Parkwood Charity Golf Day 2019 (Empower Golf)
A golf day with proceeds donated to Empower Golf, a charity which facilitates and promotes golf for less able Australians. We provided the golfers with free tasters of our beer throughout the 18 hole course.
20 June 2019, Vinnies CEO Sleepout 2019
A one night event which sees hundreds of CEOs sleep rough on one of the longest and coldest night of the year, raising money to break the cycle of homelessness. Dan, Eddie and Govs took part in the 2019 Sleepout, raising almost $2000 for Vinnies.
16 June 2019, Tara Brown Charity Golf Day (The Tara Brown Foundation)
We donated a 16 Pack of Mid Range beer and a Black Hops shirt for the raffle held on their Charity Golf Day.
15 June 2019, Burleigh Heads Rotaract Club
A local club which aims to empower young professionals to create a positive change within their community. We donated a 16 Pack of Mid Range beer for their Changeover night raffle helping raise funds for the club.
7 June 2019, Southport State High School Trivia Night
We donated a 16 Pack of Mid Range beer for their raffle fundraiser to help improve their student outdoor areas.
8-17 May 2019 Shitbox Rally Spring 2019 (Cancer Council Australia)
An event which sees 550 participants drive from Melbourne to Townsville to raise money for Cancer Council Australia. We donated a 16 Pack of Mid Range beer for their raffle/trivia night prize.

Send It Karma kegs at both Taprooms on ANZAC day with all proceeds donated to this organisation to help support social, education & employment opportunities.

We donated a Karma keg to Brothers in Kingscliff for ANZAC day with all proceeds donated to Redsix. We have also donated proceeds from staff beer keg sales to Redsix.

Project Madagascar
We purchase our vanilla beans for Eggnog Stout from Project Madagascar, an Australian community based educational aid and development project helping the people of the African island-nation of Madagascar. Read more

A local surf club in Watego’s Beach, Byron Bay. We sponsor Pat O’Rouke who is a member of the club and our very own Sales Gun!
Dry Rub Thugs
A family run business specialising in BBQ and meat rubs. We provide beer for competitions and recipes.
Gold Club
A local home brew club. We support them through awards for winning beers and judging competitions.
Independent Brewers Association
The IBA is a group that forwards the interests of independent Australian breweries. Being financial members, hosting and attending meetups.
Pink Boots Society
Our female workers are members of this nonprofit organisation and we are looking into helping coordinate local events.
Young Diggers
Karma keg at HQ with proceeds donated to Young Diggers, a charity which provides dogs for veterans.
