GABS Revival 2020 Online – Friday 5 June

When the team at GABS announced that GABS wouldn’t be happening in May / June this year we, like many of you were pretty disappointed. GABS has been a big part of our story having attended the event before Black Hops existed and having submitted beers since before we had our own brewery.

We also had a fun idea for our GABS beer in 2020 and didn’t particularly want to wait to brew it. So instead, we decided to push ahead with our 2020 GABS beer and a revised take on our annual GABS Revival event. We’re doing a release in cans only and a live call on Friday 5 June.

If you’re keen already click the link below to opt into the Facebook Event, we have a limited amount of these beers first in first served! We also have the product up live on the site now as well here. If not, read on for more below.

GABS Revival 2020 Online Edition

We will be celebrating GABS on Friday June 5 and re-releasing all of our GABS beers for our annual GABS Revival. This year will be our 6th year so the beer will be released in a mixed 6 pack. We will also be holding a live call via our Facebook Ambassador Group where Brewmaster Govs will do a live tasting of all the beers and a few more fun activities.

Black Hops People’s Choice

The people’s choice is one of the funnest part of GABS so we are going to do a live Black Hops version on the call.

Participants will get the opportunity to vote for their favourite out of our 6 GABS beers and once we crown the winner, we will choose a random voter who picked that beer, who will win this sweet prize:

  • 2 Tickets to GABS Brisbane when it kicks off (cheers to the team at GABS for that)
  • A Black Hops T Shirt
  • Black Hops Socks
  • Black Hops Craft Master One beer glass
  • A mixed 12 pack with all 6 GABS beers and 6 other Black Hops beers.

Our GABS beers

Here are our 6 GABS beers from from 2015 to 2020.

Kill Patrick

KILL PATRICK (2015) – 6.1% Oyster Kilpatrick Stout
Our first GABS beer Kill Patrick is a Stout first & foremost, with hints of smoked malts, and a touch of rye. This beer is brewed with fresh unshucked oysters and spiced with tamarind, clove, pepper and lemon zest. It finished just outside the top 10 in 13th in our first trip to GABS in Melbourne.

Assault Trifle

ASSAULT TRIFLE (2016) – 6.1% Trifle Pale Ale
This bold, Trifle Pale Ale was one of only 2 Queensland beers to finish in the top 10 at GABS 2016. It’s brewed with all the important ingredients of a good trifle including Aeroplane Jelly, toasted coconut, flagons of cream sherry, Madagascan vanilla beans, lots of fruit and sponge cake.

Band Wagon

BAND WAGON (2017) – 5.7% Wagon Wheel Stout
This sweet Stout, brewed originally for GABS 2017 is brewed with chocolate, raspberry jam, vanilla, marshmallow and biscuit.

It’s a Wagon Wheel for grown ups and has been a fan favourite Black Hops GABS beer since GABS in 2017.

Trolley’d In Tijuana

TROLLEY’D IN TIJUANA (2018) – 6.5% Sangria Saison
Black Hops’ bodacious adventure to Tijuana to source the spices for this Sangria Saison almost saw them stuck in Mexico. Fortunately, a little trolley journey kept them out of strife. Spiced with cinnamon, orange peel & star anise, it will have you doing the tango in no time.

Caribbean Haze

CARIBBEAN HAZE (2019) – 7.8% Fruit & Rum-Soaked Hazy IIPA
Caribbean Haze was brewed in collaboration with Mount Gay Rum for the 2019 GABS festival. This Caribbean-inspired hazy Double American IPA is spiced with citrus, pineapple, mango and coconut-infused Mount Gay Black Barrel Rum, to give this already aromatic style a fresh Caribbean twist.

Piña Colada

PIÑA COLADA (2020) – 6.7% Coconut & Pineapple Nitro Milkshake IPA

If you like Piña Coladas and the taste of hops brewed with grains
If you’re not into lagers, if you crave IPA’s
If you like drinking beer at midnight, or any time of the day
This beer is what you’re looking for, please enjoy and escape.
