Voted Australia’s favourite Hazy IPA (GABS Hottest 100 Craft Beers) four years in a row! It feels like Australia’s beer drinkers would have named this legend G.O.A.T. (greatest of all time) if we hadn’t. This over-achiever in the family has won the mouths and minds of beer drinkers thanks to its luscious opaque appearance and unmistakable mango and passionfruit aromas, balanced by a light pineapple bitterness.

ORIGINS

In 2018, a new style of beer was emerging in Australia, referred to as a New England IPA (NEIPA) or Hazy IPA. It had attracted so much fanfare that it was added to the official style guidelines for Australia’s most prestigious beer awards, the AIBAs. We hadn’t brewed a beer of this style before, and we decided to brew our first one specifically for these awards. With tongue in cheek, we debated a fun name that we hoped would be shown on the screen on the night as they read out the gold medals. We were close to calling it “AIBA Gold” but decided to wind back the obnoxiousness just a little bit and call it G.O.A.T. (Greatest Of All Time). We headed to Melbourne for the awards and with great expectation as they read out the gold medals for the NEIPA category, and in big shining lights, we saw “Black Hops G.O.A.T.” on the screen. G.O.A.T. is now our most widely distributed beer, neck and neck with Pale Ale in terms of our best seller.
