Over the past fifteen years the GABS Hottest 100 Craft Beer countdown has been reflective of the breweries and drinking trends that continue to shape and define our ever growing industry.

Now firmly entrenched as the biggest people’s choice beer poll in the country, each year craft beer loving consumers are asked to select, in order of preference, their five favourite craft beers of the year.

The build up to the countdown is always epic, and this year a whopping 2,140 different beers from 311 breweries attracted votes from over 60,000 registered voters.

This year’s countdown took place on Saturday, 28 January. The official Black Hops Countdown Party went down at BHII, our Biggera Waters brewery, while our Burleigh (HQ) and Brisbane Taprooms were also bulging as our loyal Black Hops drinkers got into the spirit and counted down the results with us.

With your votes, G.O.A.T. has held onto its status as Australia’s most popular Hazy IPA for the third year in a row, taking out another top ten finish in the process.

With a record equaling 58 individual breweries making the top 100 list this year and the level of competition and marketing going ‘next level’, we were more than pleased to maintain our standing inside the top ten of Oz craft beer rankings.

While G.O.A.T. did us proud, we were also very pleased to see East Coast Haze making the top 20 again this year. Here’s the full list of Black Hops results:

Congratulations to all the breweries who placed in the list, with Mountain Culture Beer Co’s, Status Quo Pale Ale (brewed by husband and wife team DJ & Harriet McCready) anointed as the new GABS Hottest 100 Champion of 2022. The silver and bronze places on the podium were filled out by previous champions, Balter XPA and Bentspoke Crankshaft IPA.
