The 16th edition of the GABS Hottest 100 Craft Beer Countdown once again shone the spotlight on the breweries and the consumer drinking patterns that define the ever more competitive and evolving craft beer landscape.
Renowned as the biggest people’s choice beer poll in the country, craft beer lovers are asked to select, in order of preference, their five favourite craft beers of the year. A record 436 craft breweries entered beers this year, with tens of thousands of votes pouring in across the lead-up to the official countdown on Saturday, 27 January.
Black Hops’ countdown celebrations took place across all 3 of our sites, with our Burleigh, Biggera Waters and East Brisbane taprooms bulging as loyal Black Hops drinkers got into the spirit and counted down the results with us.
The competition to fill a place on this year’s list was more intense than ever. And while this year G.O.A.T. didn’t crack its previous lofty heights of a top 3 finish, we were still stoked when it came in at a highly respectable 12th place, emphatically maintaining its standing as the nation’s favourite Hazy IPA for an amazing fourth year in a row!
In addition, another Black Hops fan fave, East Coast Haze also cracked the top 100 again, finishing in 71st position. Massive thanks to all of you who voted for us this year!
Congratulations to all the breweries who placed in the list, with Mountain Culture Beer Co’s Status Quo Pale Ale backing up from its number one placing last year to once again take out the top gong for 2023. The silver and bronze places on the podium were filled out by previous champions Balter XPA and Bentspoke Crankshaft IPA.
