British India Pale Ale Premiering At Crafted Beer Festival

Since 2017 the Gold Coast’s annual Crafted Beer And Cider Festival has rapidly ascended to stake its place as one of Australia’s most anticipated celebrations of craft beer culture.

This year sees the festival expand across two bumper days of amazing beer, live music, scrumptious eats and good times (from 27 – 28 August) amid the idyllic beachfront surroundings of Kurrawa Park in Broadbeach.

Black Hops has had a presence at the festival since its early days, brewing beers specifically for the occasion every year since 2018. This year we’re stoked to be collaborating with Melbourne alt-rock legends British India, (who are headlining this years’ main stage at Crafted on Saturday 28 August), to come up with a show-stopping beer to match the occasion – British India Pale Ale.

A beer brewed in collaboration with British India and Crafted Beer Festival that signifies good times, loud music and a slight nod to the birth of the IPA. This is a modern IPA using a blend of Australian and English pale malts, showcasing Australian hops and English yeast. Pale yellow, bursting with tropical fruit and a touch of cloudiness. Not a bad weather forecast for a music festival and an even better beer to drink at one.

As well as British India Pale Ale, we’ll also have an array of other Black Hops faves both old and new at Crafted 2022, including East Coast Haze, cult fave Code Red, Black Rice Lager and Hoppy Sour to name a few. We’ll be pouring across our six taps throughout the festival, so be sure to drop back regularly to see what other beery surprises we’ll also have in store!

Our Beer History At Crafted

Ever since Crafted began five years ago Black Hops have always brewed a special beer for the occasion. Here are our other Crafted beers over the years ..

2021: Purple Pils: 5.2% Purple Pilsner

In keeping with the festival’s theme of beer and music, this light, crisp and gently hopped purple Pilsner was a homage to hip hop crew D12 and their 2001 hit, ‘Purple Pils’.

I’ve been so many places, I’ve seen so many faces
But nothin’ compares to this blue and yellow Purple Pils
I’ve climbed the highest mountain once or twice, but who’s countin’?
But nothin’ compares to this blue and yellow Purple Pils

2020: East Coast Low (4.5% Hazy Pale Ale)

This beer was inspired by the East Coast Low weather pattern which sits off our coast creating most of the quintessential big swells that hit our shores. Following its unveiling at Crafted 2020, it ended up morphing into core range fave East Coast Haze.

East Coast Low is a wonderfully smooth Hazy Pale Ale, coming in at a sessionable 4.5%. Freshly hopped with Mosaic, Amarillo and HPA-016, an experimental new hop, bringing juicy flavours and aromas of stone fruit and citrus. The perfect accompaniment to a Gold Coast beer festival.

2019: Modern Pressure (4.5% Steam Ale)

Our first foray into the world of band-beer collaborations happened for Crafted 2018 when we made a beer with Melbourne (by way of Gold Coast) rockers the Delta Riggs.

To celebrate their album Modern Pressure, we teamed up with the lads and came up with a modern take on the classic Steam Ale.

This easy drinking style is brought to life with a light hop addition of Citra, Amarillo and Simcoe to deliver a fresh and full-flavoured festival beer experience.

2018: Covert Red (5.3% Red Ale)

Brewed in secrecy and dropped without warning at the 2018 Crafted beer festival, Covert Red was a Gold Coast summer-inspired version of our Autumn seasonal IPA, Code Red.

Easy drinking at 5.3% balancing robust malt character with punchy tropical hop aroma and a crisp finish.

The 2022 Crafted Beer and Cider Festival is happening across the weekend of 27 – 28 August at Kurrawa Park on the Broadbeach beachfront. So be sure to come visit our pop-up stall, say hi to the Black Hops crew and sample some of our finest beers pouring across six taps.
